At the heart of Windows Azure are its compute and management capabilities, which are foundational not only for ISV and enterprise solutions, but also for the Windows Azure platform components themselves. Windows Azure AppFabric, for instance, is a large-scale, multi-tenant, multi-datacenter service that is built on top of the same Windows Azure compute and management infrastructure that is available to customers. In this session we will drill into Windows Azure’s notion of service and configuration models, the deployment and upgrade mechanisms, and introduce the diagnostics and management capabilities. Also, the Windows Azure Core services provide a durable queue for distribution of jobs, a storage mechanism for large binaries with the ability to map such a structure as a file-system drive, and a simple, schema-less table store. At the higher end of capabilities, SQL Azure uniquely provides a full relational development platform based on Microsoft SQL Server technology where SQL Azure provides all of the otherwise often costly operational database management.
